CHARLIE THOMAS, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and singer in the legendary doo-wop group THE DRIFTERS (“There Goes My Baby,” “Save the Last Dance For Me,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Up On The Roof,” “This Magic Moment,” “On Broadway,” “Dance With Me” “Some Kind of Wonderful”), returns to the Bridge Street stage for One Show Only on Saturday, July 29th at 8 pm! With an opening set by New Britain’s own Crown Imperials!
Class-act crooner Charlie Thomas played a monumental role in the rise of R&B sensation The Drifters in the ’50s, shaping doo-wop and soul for years to come. The only original Drifter still alive and performing today, Charlie Thomas has captivated audiences across the nation for nearly 60 years with his charisma and polished style. More than half a century since the Drifters 1956 debut, Charlie Thomas and the gang still sound fresh as ever with their warm, perfect blend of harmonies on classics like “Sweets For My Sweet” and “When My Little Girl Is Smiling.” Charlie Thomas’ Drifters continue perform their quintessential hits with nothing but class, and are sure to delight fans of any age!
Charlie Thomas got his start in 1958 with the Harlem-based group the Five Crowns, later to be known as the Drifters. Under their new name, the band released their first Top 10 hit “There Goes My Baby” in 1959 with Thomas’ strong tenor at the vocal forefront. This marked the group’s turning point as they headed into their golden age with a string of hits including the No. 1 single “Save the Last Dance For Me.” Charlie Thomas and the Drifters have received a number of accolades during their decade-spanning career; with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame a decade later, it comes as no surprise that Rolling Stone named them one of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” With his profound, rich vocals and incredibly charming stage presence, Thomas delivers an enamoring performance every time he takes the stage. Charlie Thomas’ Drifters are back in action as they take fans back in time to the golden age of R&B!
Opening for Charlie Thomas’ Drifters are The Crown Imperials, an a cappella doo-wop group that has been performing together since the 1950s as students at New Britain High School. They reunited after 45 years in 2009, and have been performing steadily since, including opening for Ronnie Spector (The Ronettes) and Shirley Alston Reeves (The Shirelles).
Tickets to see Charlie Thomas’ DRIFTERS are $45 for General Admission and $60 for VIP Reserved! Don’t miss you chance to see this legendary performer LIVE at 41 Bridge Street!
