While singer-songwriter Mark Mulcahy would go on to make a name all of his own, his career actually started with Miracle Legion; one of the original ‘college rock’ bands who formed in 1983 and became something of a cult hit following acclaim from the likes of NME and Melody Maker and the release of their debut album on Rough Trade Records. Almost two decades since their last full-length release “Portrait of A Damaged Family,” the band are back together playing US shows in 2017.
The Backyard Committee
Hi there. We are The Backyard Committee. We’re a roots rock indie jam band based in the pizza capital of the world, New Haven, Connecticut. For our sound, we strive for a Europe ‘72 kinda warmth, a wild-mercury-flavored Blonde on Blonde intensity, and a Bee Thousand-style recklessness. We’re not so into click tracks, samples, auto-tune or any kind of heavy processing. We are into loose arrangements and slightly out-of-tune guitars.
Our lineup changes from one show to the next, by design. Each member is encouraged to add his or her personal voice to the mix. The human element is very important to us, and we’d rather make mistakes in the pursuit of something out of reach than play it safe.
We exist for fellow music nerds who don’t like over-editing — on the records we enjoy most, the mistakes are our favorite parts.
We’re from New England, and we think the sound of our geography comes across in our music. We love where we live, and it’s part of who we are.
Our favorite shows to play are outdoor festivals, extended club dates and secret psychedelic parties in the woods.
