Lara Herscovitch, Kate Callahan and Caroline Doctorow will present an afternoon of original songs and folk/Americana classics from Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Donovan and others.
Connecticut’s 16th State Troubadour, Kate Callahan gives a concert of compelling original music plus songs by Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan. Callahan has shared stages with songwriter legends Judy Collins, Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul & Mary), and Aztec Two Step. She is unapologetically optimistic in concert, singing original songs about the Earth, gratitude, marriage, love, and spirit. Kate is one of the most awarded songwriters in her home state of Connecticut, holding the prestigious United Arts Campaign’s Featured Artist of the year in 2014. She has been named Connecticut’s Best Singer-Songwriter, and received Hartford’s Woman of Character Award. The Boston Globe says “Kate has garnered an appreciative audience with her easy going vibe and mystical lyrics.” She lives in Connecticut where she also leads a vocal improvisation workshop she created, called the Miracle of Melody.
“Pure musical poetry” (The Courier), Lara Herscovitch’s music is an original blend of modern folk with blues, jazz & pop influences. With a voice “clear and smooth like expensive liquor” (Northeast Performer), she is “A rising talent who is truly someone to watch for” (Acoustic Live in NYC). Her music is “expertly written prose, songwriting at its best; good for your ears AND your soul” (Sound Waves). Former Connecticut State Troubadour, Lara brings a charm, authenticity, and love of performing that resonates with diverse audiences. She has appeared as a guest on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor and tours from Maine to Miami. She also has extensive experience as a policy social worker, and has worked in the US, Latin America and Asia – focusing on education, community development, and juvenile justice. Echoes of these themes resonate throughout her music: “Singer-songwriter Lara Herscovitch doesn’t write songs just for the ears, but also for the heart and soul.” (Daily Journal, Tupelo MS).
Caroline is a chart-topping folksinger and songwriter, with a stirring voice that recalls Judy Collins and Sandy Denny. No Depression Magazine says, ”Caroline Doctorow has been responsible for some of the sweetest songs of the modern folk idiom..”
Her latest album Dreaming in Vinyl reached #2 on the folk radio airplay chart five songs appearing in the top 20 in October of 2016. In addition to eleven solo albums, she released the first retrospective of the work of folk icons Richard and Mimi Fariña called Another Country which received critical acclaim- and helped bring the long forgotten songs of Richard Fariña back into the national spotlight. Several more retrospectives of the Fariaña’s work have since appeared- released by other notable artists.
Her singing, songwriting and production work appears on dozens of albums by American singer songwriters- and on several film and television sound tracks including the PBS special -The History of Us. She has opened for The Band, Alison Krauss, Tom Paxton, Tim O’Brien and Richie Havens. She is the daughter of the late renowned author E.L. Doctorow.
