Albert Woodfox, author of ‘Solitary’ talks about life in solitary confinement, self-knowledge through Black Panthers

In his heart, however, Woodfox already was free, even in prison. “The day I was released it was physical freedom, but mentally, philosophically and emotionally, I had been free for quite some time,” Woodfox said. “In my early 40s, I was able to find definitively the kind of human being and man I wanted to be.”
