BRIDGEPORT — A Friday night shooting at a Pequonnock Street barbershop left one man dead and another wounded, police said.
The man killed was identified as Jamain Allen, 40. His was the city’s 19th homicide of the year.
Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said shots were fired inside the Quick Stop Barber Shop at 375 Pequonnock St. shortly after 8 p.m. in The Hollow section of the city.
“A gunman entered the barber shop and fired at workers and patrons inside. A 39-year old male employee was shot once in the arm and neck, and fled from the establishment,” Fitzgerald said.
“Officers found this victim down the street and applied a tourniquet to his wound to stop severe bleeding. This victim was transported by medics to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he was treated for a serious injury to his arm. This victim is expected to survive.
“A second male victim identified as Jamain Allen was found in the lot next to the barber shop. Allen was shot multiple times in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Fitzgerald said.
Detectives processed the crime scene and closed roads in the area for several hours as evidence was collected.
Earlier this week, Mayor Joe Ganim and Acting Police Chief Rebeca Garcia said the city was “shifting resources” to handle the escalating violence.
Garcia said homicide investigations are “progressing very rapidly,” adding that the “solvability factor” for the recent killings are at a “good rate at this time.”
Police and other law enforcement officials previously have said the gun violence is tied to “group violence” or gangs within the city.
