Feds: Bookkeeper gets 6 months for embezzling $400K from employer

COLCHESTER — A town woman will spend half a year in federal prison after she embezzled more than $400,000 from her employer, according to authorities.

On Thursday, a judge sentenced 57-year-old Vicki Miller, of Colchester, to serve six months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

Miller, who was employed as a bookkeeper for Greylock Property Group and its owner, used her access to her employers’ bank accounts to embezzle $413,180 between July 2017 and August 2018, a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney for Connecticut John Durham said.

To embezzle those funds, authorities said, Miller made ATM withdrawals, wrote checks to herself and transferred funds to her own accounts.

Miller was arrested Feb. 13, 2018. She pleaded guilty to wire fraud on Aug. 23, 2019.

The judge ordered Miller to make full restitution. She also ordered Miller to participate in mental health treatment and a gambling addiction treatment program while on supervised release.

Miller, released on a $50,000 bond, was told to report to prison on Jan. 5, 2021.
