Hartford police make third arrest in teen’s 2019 homicide

HARTFORD — A third arrest was made this week in the deadly shooting of a teen last summer, according to police.

An 18-year-old, not identified because he was 17 at the time of the shooting, was arrested Thursday in Hartford by members of the Fugitive Task Force in connection with the Sept. 1, 2019, shooting death of 17-year-old Usher Hanns.

The teen was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, criminal liability murder, criminal liability first-degree assault and possession of a pistol without a permit.

On July 2, police arrested 20-year-old Jaden Davis and 19-year-old Diondre Johnson, charging each of them with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree assault and possession of a firearm.

Hanns was killed in a shooting in the area of 74 Edgewood St. more than a year ago.

That night, police were dispatched on a report of gunfire in the area. Arriving units found Hanns suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Medics rushed him to St. Francis Hospital. Hanns died three days later.

Four other gunshot wound victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

According to Fox 61, Hanns was a member of an anti-violence program, Hartford’s Proud Drill Drum and Dance Corporation.

Police said Hanns’ homicide investigation is active and ongoing. It’s unclear if additional arrests are expected.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford police anonymous tips line at 860-722-TIPS.
