MERIDEN — A city man faces several charges for his role in an armed home invasion last week, according to police.

On Oct. 25, officers responded to a West Main Street home to take a report of a home invasion at gunpoint. The victim told police four guns were stolen, and offered a description of the suspect vehicle.

Patrol officers and detectives launched an investigation, eventually finding the vehicle and a piece of evidence at a Franklin Street apartment near its intersection with Park Avenue.

Search warrants were granted for the units within the apartment, leading police to the arrest of 24-year-old Oneal Ward for his alleged involvement in the home invasion. Police said they also seized three guns and an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

Police did not provide insight into the fourth gun.

Ward, of Franklin Street, was charged with home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, three counts of theft of a firearm, three counts of criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.

His bond was set at $500,000.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the lead investigating detective at 203-630-4178.
