Police: Two wounded in downtown Ansonia shootings

ANSONIA — Police are investigating the shootings of two Ansonia residents early Saturday morning.

Lt. Patrick Lynch later Saturday morning said a 26-year-old man was in serious, but stable condition. The other, a 24-year-old man, was in stable condition.

Officers on patrol on Main Street in the area of Water Street heard several gunshots coming from the area of West Main Street at around 2 a.m., Lynch said.

“When officers responded to the area, they found a male in the municipal parking lot who had been shot. Officers rendered medical aid until an ambulance arrived and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“The male, a 26-year-old Ansonia resident, was shot multiple times in the upper body,” Lynch said.

While still on scene, Griffin Hospital reported a second victim of a gunshot at their facility. Officers responded to the hospital where a 24-year-old man was being treated for a single gunshot to the lower body.

The names of the shooting victims have not been released.

The Derby and Seymour police departments assisted with securing the crime scene.
