BRIDGEPORT — An overturned vehicle prompted first responders to shut down a stretch of Route 8 Wednesday morning.
The highway reopened by 8:15 a.m. after police, fire units and medics were dispatched to Route 8 south between exits 5 and 3 around 4 a.m. for a reported crash, according to the state Department of Transportation
Arriving units found an overturned vehicle and shut down the left and center lanes to investigate.
By 6:05 a.m., state police said Route 8 south was closed between exits 4 and 3 because of the crash.
“Use alternate route if traveling in or around the area,” state police urged drivers.
Around 7:30 p.m., the left and center lanes remain closed, with traffic backed up to Exit 7. By 8:15 a.m., the highway had reopened to traffic.
There was no immediate word on possible injuries.
