Bizarre goal leads Hartford Athletic to stunning win

Hartford Athletic captain Danny Barrera scored the game-winning goal on a bizarre play in the 90th minute Wednesday.

After Philadelphia keeper Mitch Budler the Union ll keeper picked up the ball in his box for a clean save. Barrera stood on the edge of the box, stuck out his right leg, and deflected the keeper’s throw up and over Budler into an empty net.

Hartford defeated Philadelphia Union II 3-2 to move one win away from securing a home playoff match in the first round of the United Soccer League playoffs. Hartford leads Group F by one point entering its final regular season game at the NY Red Bull Reserves Sunday at 5 p.m.
