“It’s difficult to change, and I’ll tell you why,” Butler says. “When you think of the 400 plus years of oppression, post Jim Crow, prior to Jim Crow, and the civil rights movement. Let’s just face it, man, there have been some terrible, terrible things done to Black people in America, and it still happens. But we can control a lot of what happens going forward. One, you should have a pulse on what’s happening, and if that doesn’t get you more energized, I know what will: bad, recycled behavior. … If you’re a young person, when you look at news and other outlets you see the reality of our world. It wasn’t until live entertainment was taken away from us that we had a glimpse of what our world was really like. It’s been like this for quite some time, and entertainment has been a huge distraction.”
