Former Quinnipiac stars Connor Clifton, Devon Toews in select company in NHL playoffs

Former Quinnipiac teammates Connor Clifton and Devon Toews are in select company during this year’s NHL Playoffs.

The defensemen joined Andy Greene and Alec Martinez, 2005-06 Miami (Ohio) teammmates, as the only set of former college teammates among the 22 defensemen from United States college programs with goals in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.

Clifton has one goal for the Bruins, Toews one goal for the Islanders. Greene (Islanders) and Martinez (Vegas) have one goal each.

Here’s a list of the U.S. college programs with the most points from defensemen heading into Tuesday’s action.

Michigan: 2 goals, 12 assists, 14 points

Quinn Hughes, Vancouver: 11 games, 1 goal, 9 assists, 10 points

Zach Werenski, Columbus: 10-1-2-3

Jacob Trouba, Rangers: 3-0-1-1

Minnesota: 3 goals, 10 assists, 13 points

Nate Schmidt, Vegas: 9-1-5-6

Nick Leddy, Islanders: 10-2-1-3

Erik Johnson, Colorado: 9-0-2-2

Brady Skjei, Carolina: 7-0-1-1

Ryan Lindgren, Rangers: 3-0-1-1

Michigan State: 2 goals, 10 assists, 12 points

Duncan Keith, Chicago: 9-0-5-5

Torey Krug, Boston: 9-0-4-4

Jeff Petry, Montreal:10-2-1-3

Miami: 2 goals, 6 assists, 8 points

Andy Greene, Islanders: 9-1-2-3

Alec Martinez, Vegas: 9-1-4-5

UMass: 2 goals, 6 assists, 8 points

Cale Makar, Colorado: 10-2-6-8

Boston University: 2 goals, 5 assists, 7 points
