Ben Conroy birdied the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to defeat Cody Paladino and win the 33rd Connecticut Mid-Amateur Championship at Madison Country Club Tuesday evening.
Conroy, a member at New Haven Country Club, fired a 4-under-par 66 in the final round to catch Paladino (CC of Farmington), who led by 4 heading into the round. Conroy made five birdies (3, 5, 7, 10 and 14) in the round after shooting a 1-over 71 in the morning.
Paladino made three consecutive bogeys (11 through 13), then parred the last five holes to force the playoff. Both he and Conroy finished three rounds of regulation at 4-under 206.
Jeff Riley (Black Hall Club) placed third at 2-over 212, followed by Austin Cilley (Lake of Isles GC) in fourth at 3-over 213 and Josh Cameron (Shennecossett GC) taking fifth at 6-over 216.
