Samaha Bowl postponed

The 49th annual Samaha Bowl, Wallingford’s annual Powder Puff game held during Thanksgiving week, has been postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Samaha is credited with the creation of this annual game in 1972. Seniors from both town schools compete in front of one of the largest crowds each year.

“Due to the health conditions at this time, we are postponing Powder Puff until later this school year.,” said Dr. Salvatore F. Menzo, Wallingford’s superintendent of schools, in a statement. “The coaches met with the students this week, and shared the plans to honor the traditions leading up to the big event. We are confident that we will be able to provide a memorable experience for the students thanks to the hard work and commitment of the staff. We will keep everyone posted as the schedule of events is officially announced.”

Samaha, who was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991, died back in August.
